You are looking to escape the city for a weekend or a week this summer and you want to enjoy some of the beautiful beaches Long Island has to offer but you want to know where you can go without a resident permit? We got you! Here is the list of LI beaches open to the public and our personal top 5!
Robert Moses State Park (South Shore)
Robert Moses Beaches are accessible to the Public this summer. Even if Parking will be limited to 50 percent, their capacity is huge so you should be able to find a spot easily.
You can access the park from sunrise to sunset. Lifeguards on duty from Memorial Day through early September.

Heckscher State Park Beach is pretty long so you won’t have a problem seating 6 ft away from other people. It’s a beautiful and clean beach with a nice bike path and public bathroom.
Parking is $10 per car.
Hours: 8:00am - 4:00pm, Daily
7:00am - 6:00pm, Saturdays, Sundays & Holiday.

Sunken Meadow State Park Beach is great for families as the water is quite calm and lifeguards are on duty. It offers a great view on the Long Island Sound and on Connecticut.

Parking is $10 per car. (8am-4pm weekdays and 7am-6pm weekends and holidays)

It’s an other great Beach option for family as it’s quite calm with picnic areas, kids playing areas and a beautiful forest/park to visit.
As of all the NY State Parks, Parking is reduced to 50%.
The Beach is accessible to the public from 8am to sunset.

Wildwood State Park (North Shore)
A great state park and beach in Wading River. This part of Long Island is quieter than the South Shore and safer for kids and families. A family's favorite!
As of all the NY State Parks, Parking is reduced to 50%.
The Beach is accessible to the public from sunrise to sunset.

Here are the Safety Tips when you Visit Public Beaches or Parks in New York:
Maintaining six feet of distance.
Wear a face mask whenever you are unable to maintain that social distance.
Bring hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes to be able to clean your hands after touching surfaces (bathroom stalls, handrails, rental beach equipment).
Avoid drinking water from the public fountains.
Keep social distance while being in the water and while swimming.
